The New School Prayer

Recently I received the following school prayer as an email. The words spoken in the prayer are so true in our society today. We continue to remove anything related to God from our schools as well as our workplace and our governments. Yet, in retrospect, we tend to accept everything else. Consider the following thought — As we continue to remove God from so much of our lives and deny teaching and instilling the godly principles on which our nation was founded, how could we possibly think that God would continue to bless us and our nation?

The New School Prayer

Now I sit me down in school

Where praying is against the rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow

Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all

In silence alone we must meditate,

God’s name is prohibited by the state.

We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the ‘unwed daddy,’ our Senior King.

It’s ‘inappropriate’ to teach right from wrong,

We’re taught that such ‘judgments’ do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It’s scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school’s a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen !

Are You Counting on God?

This song “Counting on God” reminds us that we do not have to worry about anything in life if we rely on God. We know that God is always there for us but often we rely on our own strength rather than counting on God. It is through God’s strength that we can accomplish all things. Without him we rely on our own strength and many times we  fall short of our full potential. Are you reaching your full potential by counting on God as you go about your daily lives?

Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Matthew 19:26 Jesus this looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Temptation . . .

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will always provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

This is a very inspiring scripture to share with those who are seeking to change their lifestyle to the grace-based approach to lasting weight loss. This scripture tells us that the temptation that we face are not unique to us but rather they are common to man. Many times we feel that we are burdened by temptations that are unique to us and we are left alone in the battle. We feel isolated and defeated before we begin. We must realize that God is always there for us to help us overcome any temptation that we face. However, it is up to us to call on Him for that help. However, there are times when we simply do not want His help. We become defiant because we want to eat that blackberry cobbler or hot fudge sundae even though we are not even hungry. Therefore, we ignore the signals that are sent our way through our conscience.

What temptation are you currently facing? Do you want to overcome that temptation or are you defiantly holding on to it? Remember — God is there at all times just waiting for you to call on Him. We must rely on God to get through the struggles and temptations in our daily life. He is willing and able to help when we seek Him with all our heart. You must do your part and call on Him. Cry out to Him in prayer. Seek Him with all your heart. He will hear your prayer and He will answer. Have you called on Him today?



How Big Is God?

I recently received this email from a friend with the directions to pass it on to others. I am very particular what emails I pass on and share, however, I wanted to share this email with as many as I could. We have all heard similar sayings before and we know that the message is true. “How Big Is God?” creates a setting that we can all be familiar with in relating to this message. Although we may know that it is true, there are still may who do not believe and have not accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. Please share this story with everyone you know.

After living what I felt was a ‘decent’ life, my time on earth came to the end. The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a court house. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.

As I looked around I saw the ‘prosecutor.’ He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me. He definitely was the most evil person I had ever seen. I sat down and looked to my left and there sat ‘My” Attorney, a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me. I felt I knew Him. The corner door flew open and there appeared the ‘Judge’ in full flowing robes. He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Him. As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, “Let us begin.

The prosecutor rose and said, “My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man belongs in hell. ” He proceeded to tell of lies that I had told, things that I stole, and in the past when I had cheated others… Satan told of other horrible perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank. I was so embarrassed that I couldn’t look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely forgotten about. As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at ‘My” Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all. I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life — couldn’t that at least equal out part of the harm I’d done?  Satan finished with a fury and said, “This man belongs in hell, he is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise.”

When it was His turn, ‘My’ Attorney first asked if He might  approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty. I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior. He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, “Hi, Dad,” and then He turned to address the court. “Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won’t deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wages of sin is death, and this man deserves to be punished.”

Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, “However, I died on the cross so that this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine.” My Lord continued with, “His name is written in the Book of Life, and no one can snatch him from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy.” As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said, “There is nothing else that needs to be done. I’ve done it all. ”

The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words bellowed from His lips, “This man is free. The penalty for him has already been paid in full. Case dismissed.”

As my Lord led me a away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, “I won’t give up, I will win the next one.” I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, “Have you ever lost a case?” Christ lovingly smiled and said, “Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you, —PAID IN FULL!!!”

STOP telling God how big your storm is — Instead, START telling the storm how big your God is!!!

So often when we try to lose weight, we feel that we cannot call on God to help us. We feel that we must do it on our own. We put the weight on; therefore, it is our responsibility to get it off. We shouldn’t  have to call on God to help us. We must understand that God loves us unconditionally and accepts us even when others don’t. He wants to help us through any struggles that we encounter — that includes our weight struggles. We do not have any control in our own strength but with God’s help we have the power to succeed.

Colossians 2:20-23

Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why,as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility, and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Why do we continue submit to the rules imposed by our society such as religious rules?  As a Christian, we do not have to submit to rules ( not laws). The rules will not change a person’s heart only the Holy Spirit can do that. Therefore, keeping the rules is completed only through human effort. When we impose diet rules, they make me focus more on food that ever before. When you tell me that I can’t have sweets, it makes me want them that much more. I just can’t seem to get them off my mind.

As I think back over the years about the many diets in the past — SlimFast, Atkins Diet, Sugar Busters, Cabbage Soup Diet, low calorie, low carbohydrates, and more. Consider the harsh treatment that these diets have imposed on  the body over the years. When keeping man-made rules, we focus on human effort. Therefore, on all these diets our performance determined our success. Rather, we must focus on our new life in Christ and allow Christ to give us the strength to overcome.

Matthew 19:26 “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible!”

As we begin our weight loss  journey together, we know from past experiences that it is impossible to reach our goal in our own strength. However, we know that with God all thing are possible. He will be with us on this journey and He will give us the strength to endure and bring us through it. To be successful on this journey, we must put our complete faith and trust in Him. By relying on God and putting our faith and trust in Him, we will begin to be transformed.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,”plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Just to know that God had a plan and a purpose specifically for each of us when we were created, should give us a hope and a future. How could God have a plan just for me? It seems amazing to me.

Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.

God can take your struggling life and rebuild it. When we take control of our life and do not allow God to help us build it, we build it in vain. Surrender to Him now and ask God to help you build the firm foundation that only He can build. Include God in your daily life. You will be glad you did.
