Your Most Important Connection

No Other God (THE COMMANDMENTS)

Have you ever considered your most important connection in life? Is it someone who was a role model when you were young? Could it be a successful business person? Could it be a prominent political figure?

Recently when pondering a post for Connect and Assist, a website to help you get connected for any of your business or personal needs, I was pondering the thought about your most important connection. It was like a revelation that the most important connection in any one’s life is their connection to God. Although some may not recognize the need for that connection, I can assure you that it is the most significant connection one can ever embrace.

Being connected to God provides your lifeline for eternity. You know that when you die, you will be spending an eternity in heaven rather than the alternative. Not only do you know your final destination, you will find that you will live your life differently. You begin to value the things in life that really matter rather than the material things in life that we often value too much. You will begin to live with that  hope that only Christ can give. You find a peace about your life that you never knew before. If you do not know my Jesus, why not accept Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life now?

Real Men . . .

  • December 11, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I enjoy reading bumper stickers. There are some bumper stickers that I wonder why would anyone put that bumper sticker on their car. There are others that are quite cute; some are political; others quite funny. Yet there are some bumper stickers that stand out to me. The bumper stickers that I admire are those that profess the values in our life that really matter most. The most recent one that stands out to me  is…

Real men believe in Jesus.

When people talk about real men, they often are referring to their manly qualities such as their brusque physique as opposed to someone who believes in Jesus who may or may not possess  such manly qualities. Therefore this bumper sticker, “Real men believe in Jesus!”  It takes a real man to take a stand and profess his faith in God.

Look Me in the Eyes . . .

A Michael Jordan Motivational Video

“Look Me in the Eyes”

We must put aside our fears and strive to become the person that God created us to be. We must get to know ourselves from within and discover who that person is that God created. We must look ourselves in the eyes and seek to determine our purpose in life. Don’t try to become someone else. We are all unique creations each with a purpose and a plan. We should seek to know ourselves and who we are to become. Sometimes it takes a while for us to find our place in this life. Just be patient as you seek to follow God’s plan for your life. Eventually, you will find your place in this life. Michael Jordan says it all when he says, “I have patience. I will become what I know I am.”

Shoes in Church

  • November 29, 2009 at 8:00 pm

How often do we judge others without knowing the circumstances? It’s easy to judge someone and form our own opinion without knowing the whole story. Do you ever hesitate to greet someone who does not quite fit your standards? Even though we all know that we should never judge someone who does not look like us, we sometimes avoid those situations. Others may not be as fortunate as you but that does not make them any less of a person. Yet if we are not careful, we find ourselves doing just that.  God tells us to treat others as we want to be treated.

This is an email that I received and I wanted to share it with my readers. The author of this email is unknown. I hope it  makes you stop and think before forming an opinion about others. We should all be thankful for our many blessings, but we should also treat others respectfully as we would want to be treated. If you were in a similar situation,  wouldn’t you want someone to welcome you? Pray that God will reveal situations to you and help you to be obedient to Him.

Shoes in Church

I showered and shaved……………. I adjusted my tie.

I got there and sat………… In a pew just in time.

Bowing my head in prayer………. As I closed my eyes..

I saw the shoe of the man next to me…… Touching my own. I sighed.

With plenty of room on either side……. I thought, ‘Why must our soles touch?’

It bothered me, his shoe touching mine… But it didn’t bother him much.

A prayer began: ‘Our Father’…………. I thought, ‘This man with the shoes, has no pride.

They’re dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!’

‘Thank You for blessings,’ the prayer went on.

The shoe man said…………… A quiet ‘Amen.’

I tried to focus on the prayer……. But my thoughts were on his shoes again.

Aren’t we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door?

‘Well, this certainly isn’t it,’ I thought, Glancing toward the floor.

Then the prayer was ended………… And the songs of praise began.

The shoe man was certainly loud……. Sounding proud as he sang.

His voice lifted the rafters………. His hands were raised high.

The Lord could surely hear. The shoe man’s voice from the sky.

It was time for the offering……. And what I threw in was steep.

I watched as the shoe man reached…. Into his pockets so deep.

I saw what was pulled out………. What the shoe man put in.

Then I heard a soft ‘clink’. As when silver hits tin.

The sermon really bored me……… To tears, and that’s no lie.

It was the same for the shoe man… For tears fell from his eyes.

At the end of the service…… As is the custom here.

We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer..

But I felt moved somehow…………… And wanted to meet the shoe man.

So after the closing prayer………. I reached over and shook his hand.

He was old and his skin was dark….. And his hair was truly a mess.

But I thanked him for coming………. For being our guest.

He said, ‘My names’ Charlie………… I’m glad to meet you, my friend.’

There were tears in his eyes…… But he had a large, wide grin.

‘Let me explain,’ he said………. Wiping tears from his eyes.

‘I’ve been coming here for months…. And you’re the first to say ‘Hi.”

‘I know that my appearance……….’Is not like all the rest.

‘But I really do try………………..’To always look my best.’

‘I always clean and polish my shoes..’Before my very long walk.

‘But by the time I get here………’They’re dirty and dusty, like chalk.’

My heart filled with pain……….. And I swallowed to hide my tears.

As he continued to apologize……… For daring to sit so near

He said, ‘When I get here………..’I know I must look a sight.

‘But I thought if I could touch you..’Then maybe our souls might unite’

I was silent for a moment………… Knowing whatever was said

Would pale in comparison… I spoke from my heart, not my head.

‘Oh, you’ve touched me,’ I said……’And taught me, in part;

‘That the best of any man………….’Is what is found in his heart.’

The rest, I thought,…………….. This shoe man will never know.

Like just how thankful I really am… That his dirty old shoe touched my soul

You are special to me and you have made a difference in my life.

I respect you, and truly cherish you.

No Matter What . . .

  • November 7, 2009 at 12:00 pm

So many times we worry about what others say, what they may think, or what they do. Often we let others opinions interfere with what we believe. This video demonstrates to us that what you believe is true. If you believe in yourself and you have a dream, you should strive to achieve that dream.

What is your dream?

The Children’s Bible in a Nutshell

  • November 6, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I received this email and wanted to share it with others. I do not pass along most emails but I will include them as a post for others to read and enjoy. It is reprinted just as I received it. We often do not realize what a child is thinking. A child was asked to write a book report on the entire Bible.  I wonder how often we take for granted that children understand what we are teaching ???  The Children’s Bible in a Nutshell is told through the eyes of a child. Hope you enjoy reading.

The Children’s Bible in a Nutshell

In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, ‘The Lord thy God is one, but I think He must be a lot older than that. Anyway, God said, ‘Give me a light!’ and someone did. Then God made the world.

He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren’t embarrassed because mirrors hadn’t been invented yet. Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden…..Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn’t have cars.

Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel. Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.

One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check.

After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was more famous than his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for some pot roast. Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.

Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh’s people. These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.

God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti. Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don’t lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet your neighbor’s stuff.

Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: Humor thy father and thy mother.

One of Moses’ best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over on the town.

After Joshua came David.. He got to be king by killing a giant with a slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500 porcupines. My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn’t sound very wise to me.

After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed up on the shore. There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don’t have to worry about them.

After the Old Testament came the New Testament. Jesus is the star of The New. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, ‘Close the door! Were you born in a barn?’ It would be nice to say, ‘As a matter of fact, I was.’)

During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Democrats. Jesus also had twelve opossums. The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.

Jesus was a great man. He he led many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount. But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn’t stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead..

Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.

Little Choices — Big Victories

  • November 6, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Everyone is trying to accomplish something big; not realizing that life is make up of little things.

Frank A. Clark

If only we would focus on the little things in life rather than always trying to accomplish something really big. It is the little choices that we make each day that  result in BIG VICTORIES!!! Live each day concentrating and focusing on the little things in life that are important. Each little choice that you make each day adds up to big victories as you keep making the right choices day by day.

This little concept can be applied to most any area of your life. Start today by making wiser choices in the food that you eat to lead to a healthier lifestyle. Begin making more responsible decisions in your finances and day by day those decisions will add up and make a difference in your life. Choose to begin making  more godly choices in your life and you will gradually develop into a changed person with a different outlook on life. Remember, the little choices result in BIG VICTORIES!!!
