This song“Counting on God” reminds us that we do not have to worry about anything in life if we rely on God. We know that God is always there for us but often we rely on our own strength rather than counting on God. It is through God’s strength that we can accomplish all things. Without him we rely on our own strength and many times we fall short of our full potential. Are you reaching your full potential by counting on God as you go about your daily lives?
Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Matthew 19:26 Jesus this looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Just the other night at church, Kyle Idleman of Southeast Christian Church, shared the details of when he was convicted by the Holy Spirit and responded to the altar call during the singing of the hymn, “I Surrender All.“ The words to the chorus go something like this, “I surrender all. I surrender all. All thee my blessed Savior, I surrender all. “As pointed out by Kyle, very often we make that decision without surrendering our all . There are parts of our life that we do not want to turn over to God. Although we may mature and realize the significance of the decision, we can never redo the initial surrender of our lives to God. However, we can sincerely repent of the sins and the things that we continue to hold on to as we invite God to help us to be in continual surrender to Him.
As I thought about Kyle’s message, I too recalled the song to which I responded, Softly and Tenderly.” As I sing the words to the song, I can picture Jesus standing there watching and waiting for each of us to respond to come home to Him. Although it has been a long time since I have heard this hymn, these are the words I recall.
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me.
Patiently Jesus is waiting and watching, watching for your and for me.
Come home. Come home. Ye who are weary come home.
Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling. Calling all sinners come home.”
Have you ever had a song come to mind and you seem to sing it repeatedly? Recently after my last post, the song, “Do You Know My Jesus, was constantly replayed in my mind. If you do not know my Jesus, let the words of the song speak to your heart and accept Him today.
Have you ever considered your most important connection in life? Is it someone who was a role model when you were young? Could it be a successful business person? Could it be a prominent political figure?
Recently when pondering a post for Connect and Assist, a website to help you get connected for any of your business or personal needs, I was pondering the thought about your most important connection. It was like a revelation that the most important connection in any one’s life is their connection to God. Although some may not recognize the need for that connection, I can assure you that it is the most significant connection one can ever embrace.
Being connected to God provides your lifeline for eternity. You know that when you die, you will be spending an eternity in heaven rather than the alternative. Not only do you know your final destination, you will find that you will live your life differently. You begin to value the things in life that really matter rather than the material things in life that we often value too much. You will begin to live with that hope that only Christ can give. You find a peace about your life that you never knew before. If you do not know my Jesus, why not accept Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life now?
