THE U IN JESUS

  • October 31, 2009 at 12:00 pm

So many of the emails that I receive, I just can’t resist sharing on my blog. If you have seen this before, please disregard. — Author Unknown

Before U were thought of or time had begun,

God stuck U in the name of His Son.

And each time U pray, you’ll see it’s true,

You can’t spell out JesUs and not include U.

You’re a pretty big part of His wonderful name,

For U, He was born; that’s why He came.

And His great love for U is the reason He died.

It even takes U to spell crUcified.

Isn’t it thrilling and splendidly grand

He rose from the dead, with U in His plan?

The stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew,

and this word resUrrection is spelled with a U.

When JesUs left earth at His upward ascension,

He felt there was one thing He just had to mention.

‘Go into the world and tell them it’s true

That I love them all – Just like I love U.’

So many great people are spelled with a U,

Don’t they have a right to know JesUs too?

It all depends now on what U will do,

He’d like them to know,

But it all starts with U.

Temptation . . .

  • October 30, 2009 at 12:00 pm

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will always provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

This is a very inspiring scripture to share with those who are seeking to change their lifestyle to the grace-based approach to lasting weight loss. This scripture tells us that the temptation that we face are not unique to us but rather they are common to man. Many times we feel that we are burdened by temptations that are unique to us and we are left alone in the battle. We feel isolated and defeated before we begin. We must realize that God is always there for us to help us overcome any temptation that we face. However, it is up to us to call on Him for that help. However, there are times when we simply do not want His help. We become defiant because we want to eat that blackberry cobbler or hot fudge sundae even though we are not even hungry. Therefore, we ignore the signals that are sent our way through our conscience.

What temptation are you currently facing? Do you want to overcome that temptation or are you defiantly holding on to it? Remember — God is there at all times just waiting for you to call on Him. We must rely on God to get through the struggles and temptations in our daily life. He is willing and able to help when we seek Him with all our heart. You must do your part and call on Him. Cry out to Him in prayer. Seek Him with all your heart. He will hear your prayer and He will answer. Have you called on Him today?

Southeast Christian - Indiana Campus

Last week I featured Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY as our home church. I would like to share with you the opportunity to get to know our satellite church established in Indiana by Southeast Christian Church. Dave and I attend both churches. We attend the worship services on Saturday evening at the main campus in Louisville. However, we serve in the baptistery at the Indiana campus on Sunday. We simply love both campuses so we have the best of both worlds.

This week’s featured Christian website is Southeast Christian – Indiana Campus.Visit the ‘Who We Are’ on the staff page and meet Rusty Russell our campus pastor and other staff members or learn ‘What We Believe ‘ — the beliefs on which Southeast is based.  Also note the upcoming events and the recent sermons available here.

Have a question about the worship times and types of worship?  There is something for everyone. There is information about adult groups including Discover Groups, Community Groups, Men’s Groups, and Women’s Groups. For the students, there is information about junior high, high school, and college-age groups. There is additional information on children worship.  Anyone is invited to attend — you do not have to be a member of Southeast.

This is a just brief tour of Southeast Christian — Indiana Campus. Please feel free to visit the website and of course we would love to have you visit the worship service in our new sanctuary. May God bless you all.

Worry . . .

Thin Within Scripture Tidbit on Worry

Matthew 6:25, 31-33 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? So do not worry , saying, ‘What shall we ear?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

How often do we let ourselves be overcome with worry? Worry can interfere with your eating and your sleeping. It almost seems to overtake your life if you allow it to get a hold on you. It is even difficult to accomplish necessary tasks at times due to our worry.

Dictionary. com defines worry . . .

  1. To torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret.
  2. To torment with cares and anxieties.
  3. A worried condition or feeling; uneasiness, anxiety, or troubled.

Most everyone suffers from anxiety at one time or another. We worry about our family, about the finances, about our jobs, about our health, and about anything else that comes to mind. I have found that worry doesn’t solve any issues. It doesn’t make me feel any better. So, why should I worry and let it burden me?

This scripture specifically tells us not to worry. We are not to worry about life or what we eat, drink, or wear. We need to rely on God give our worries to Him.  Pray and ask him to help you overcome those worries. As you seek to have a closer relationship with God, you will find that your worries become few. God truly does satisfy your needs if you just let Him.

Now, when I start to worry about something, I think of this scripture. Christ tells us not to worry about anything. Worry only drags us down and doesn’t make any situation better. It is best if you just rely on God and ask that His will be done and trust Him for the outcome. I like to live by the phrase, “Don’t worry; Be happy!”

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Have you ever become so obsessed about losing weight that you become obsessed with the means to accomplish that goal? Heidi shares her experience about becoming obsessed with exercise as a means to accomplish her goal. Even though you may lose the weight at this time, eventually you will realize that you still have some food issues. In Thin Within, you will learn to trust the signals of your body and honor God as you lose the weight. God has plans for each of us. “Crunch Time” . . .

  • October 26, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Today Southeast Christian Church, Dave Stone, presented part 5 of a 6-part series as he continued the sermon series Faith In Training from the book of James with Crunch Time.”

James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

In Dave’s sermon, he discusses three personal confessions of a prideful person. The first confession involves loving the things of the world more than we should — possessions, pleasure, and power. The second confession is our eagerness in judging others. The proud are quick to judge others. The Bible commands us when we are to judge others. The final confession involves bragging about our future plans.

How Big Is God?

  • October 25, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I recently received this email from a friend with the directions to pass it on to others. I am very particular what emails I pass on and share, however, I wanted to share this email with as many as I could. We have all heard similar sayings before and we know that the message is true. “How Big Is God?” creates a setting that we can all be familiar with in relating to this message. Although we may know that it is true, there are still may who do not believe and have not accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. Please share this story with everyone you know.

How Big Is God???

(Author Unknown)

After living what I felt was a ‘decent’ life, my time on earth came to the end. The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a court house. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.

As I looked around I saw the ‘prosecutor.’ He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me. He definitely was the most evil person I had ever seen. I sat down and looked to my left and there sat ‘My” Attorney, a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me. I felt I knew Him. The corner door flew open and there appeared the ‘Judge’ in full flowing robes. He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Him. As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, “Let us begin.

The prosecutor rose and said, “My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man belongs in hell. ” He proceeded to tell of lies that I had told, things that I stole, and in the past when I had cheated others… Satan told of other horrible perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank. I was so embarrassed that I couldn’t look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely forgotten about. As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at ‘My” Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all. I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life — couldn’t that at least equal out part of the harm I’d done?  Satan finished with a fury and said, “This man belongs in hell, he is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise.”

When it was His turn, ‘My’ Attorney first asked if He might  approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty. I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior. He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, “Hi, Dad,” and then He turned to address the court. “Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won’t deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wages of sin is death, and this man deserves to be punished.”

Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, “However, I died on the cross so that this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine.” My Lord continued with, “His name is written in the Book of Life, and no one can snatch him from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy.” As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said, “There is nothing else that needs to be done. I’ve done it all. ”

The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words bellowed from His lips, “This man is free. The penalty for him has already been paid in full. Case dismissed.”

As my Lord led me a away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, “I won’t give up, I will win the next one.” I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, “Have you ever lost a case?” Christ lovingly smiled and said, “Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you, —PAID IN FULL!!!”

The Grocery Store . . .

  • October 25, 2009 at 12:00 pm

This story of The Grocery Store was received as an email to be passed on to others. I make it a point not to pass emails to large numbers of people although I do pass them on to a few. This story I had to share with others. I hope you enjoy and are blessed by this story.

Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat on her face, walked into a grocery store. She approached the owner of the store in a most humble manner and asked if he would let her charge a few groceries. She softly explained  that her husband was very ill and unable to work, they had seven children and they needed food.

John Longhouse, the grocer, scoffed at her and requested that she leave his store at once. Visualizing the family needs, she said: ‘Please, sir! I will bring you the money just as soon as I can.’ John told her he could not give her credit, since she did not have a charge account at his store.

Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard the conversation between the two. The customer walked forward and told the grocer that he would stand good for whatever she needed for her family. The grocer said in a very reluctant voice, ‘Do you have a grocery list?’ Louise replied, ‘Yes sir.’ ‘O.K’ he said, ‘put your grocery list on the scales and whatever your grocery list weighs, I will give you that amount in groceries.’

Louise hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she reached into her purse and took out a piece of paper and scribbled something on it. She then laid the piece of paper on the scale carefully with her head still bowed.

The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement when the scales went down and stayed down. The grocer, staring at the scales, turned slowly to the customer and said begrudgingly, ‘I can’t believe it.’

The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the groceries on the other side of the scales. The scale did not balance so he continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales would hold no more. The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed the piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater amazement. It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer, which said:

‘Dear Lord, you know my needs and I am leaving this in your hands.’

The grocer gave her the groceries that he had gathered and stood in stunned silence. Louise thanked him and left the store. The other customer handed a fifty-dollar bill to the grocer and said; ‘It was worth every penny of it. Only God Knows how much a prayer weighs.’

The Sack Lunches . . .

  • October 24, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Hope this will touch your heart as it did mine. It doesn’t matter the uniform we are all proud to see our men and women serve as well as they do for our country. GOD BLESS AMERICA! Received as an email — author unknown.

The Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. ‘I’m glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,  I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. ‘Where are you headed?’ I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. ‘Petawawa. We’ll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we’re being deployed to Afghanistan

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars.. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time.

As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. ‘No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn’t be worth five bucks. I’ll wait till we get to base.’ His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. ‘Take a lunch to all those soldiers.’ She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. ‘My son was a soldier in Iraq ; it’s almost like you are doing it for him.’

Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, ‘Which do you like best – beef or chicken?’ ‘Chicken,’ I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from First Class. ‘This is your, thanks.’

After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. ‘I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.’ He handed me twenty-five dollars.

Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand, an said, ‘I want to shake your hand.’ Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain’s hand. With a booming voice he said, ‘I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot..’ I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.

When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the Soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. ‘It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You.’

Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. I could only give them a couple of meals.

It seemed so little…

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America ‘ for an amount of ‘up to and including My life.’ That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.’

May God Bless and Guide You !

Jeremiah 29:11

  • October 23, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Jeremiah 29:11-14a

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord.

Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to know that God, the God of the universe, the God who created us, created us with a plan. Not only a plan but a plan to give us a hope and a future.

Do you ever wonder if you are currently following God’s plan for your life? You must seek to know what God’s plan for your life and pray that He will reveal those plans to you. The scripture tells us that we will find Him when we earnestly seek Him with all our heart. God knows the condition of our hearts as we pray to him.

Seek to do His will each and every day.
